Beginner level knitting pattern for an oversized scarf that can also be used as small lap blanket.  The design utilizes simple knotted boxes stitched alternated with a special ALS message with 2 options, SFW and NSFW.

Quick projects works up with worsted weight yarn and size 9 needles.

ALS SCARF

Want to know how I feel about ALS?  READ MY SCARF!

I designed this scarf for anyone who’s life has been impacted by ALS.  I wanted a subtle yet direct way to show how I feel about this devastating disease.  I’ve given you 2 options, SFW and a NSFW, for the wording worked into the scarf design.  When you are wearing the scarf the words are not immediately discernible, but you’ll want to show off this one!

The design is a bit oversized so it can wrap generously around your neck or even serve as a small lap blanket!

This pattern is suitable for a confident beginner.  Techniques you will need include cast on, knit, purl, chart reading (written instructions included), and 3-needle bind off or Kitcheners stitch.  The pattern is a simple knotted boxes pattern with inset message alternating along the whole length of the scarf.

The scarf is worked in 2 indentical pieces, seamed in the middle.  This makes sure that the message is never upside down!

Beginner Knitting Pattern.

Yarn:  Worsted (4) weight, 700 yds

Needles: 5mm / US 8

Notions: scissors, tapestry needle, scrap yarn
